Scholarship Opportunities
Randolph Telephone has designed the following scholarship opportunities to be “an investment in the future growth, development, and well-being of our member/subscriber families and the community.” Our company's commitment to our customers and the communities we serve extends far beyond the telecom arena. Randolph Telephone directors, management, and staff have maintained their resolve to be active corporate citizens in the counties the co-op serves, to stay involved in local community affairs, and to target contribution dollars to a variety of worthwhile civic and charitable causes. Randolph Telephone and its subsidiaries annually award $9,000 in scholarship funds to students in area high schools, sponsor art contests for senior art students, and now provide scholarships for second-year college students, as well as a summer intern program. The Board of Directors considers such scholarships an investment in the region’s future.
General Scholarship Program
Eligibility
1. Applicant must be a dependent of a member or subscriber in good standing of RTMC or RTC whose primary residence is located within the RTMC or RTC service area. (Residence telephone number prefixes for the service areas are: 241, 381, 461, 464, 581, 857, 879, and 622.)
2. Applicant must be a graduating high school or home school senior who meets the entrance requirements for an accredited college or university.
3. The scholarship award will be paid for the benefit and use of the applicant directly to the college or university where the applicant has been accepted as a student or where the applicant is attending classes.
4. Applicants meeting conditions 1 through 3 above will be eligible without regard to race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender or disability.
This application must be completed and turned in to your High School Guidance Counselor and received in the RTMC/RTC office at 3733 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, NC no later than April 20, 2009.
The names of ALL applicants meeting eligibility requirements described above will be entered in drawings by county to be held by RTMC/RTC’s April Board Meeting. If, subsequent to drawing, it is determined that applicant did not, in fact, meet eligibility requirements, then a redrawing from the remaining pool of applicants will be held to select a winner. Guidance counselors will be notified of winners by telephone, and students will be honored at their High School's Awards Ceremony. Scholarship checks are paid directly to the college/university during the month of August.

2010 Student Guidelines and Provisions
The Competition is designed to ENCOURAGE, INVOLVE, RECOGNIZE, and REWARD area Senior Art Students who participate. High schools serving Randolph Telephone customers are invited to participate in the Young Artists’ Cover Design Competition. Art teachers in the participating schools are urged to incorporate the program into the art curriculum for senior art students in order to increase student involvement.

Original art only - no copies
*No exceptions
Procedures:
Deadline April 15, 2010 - students must turn in entry to the school’s art department in order for the school to select from 1 to 5 (maximum) entries to submit.
Each school’s entries are to be delivered no later than 3 p.m., April 20, 2010, to:

Randolph Telephone will provide the art teachers with cards for use by each entrant (included in student pamphlet). These cards are to be completed, signed by student and parent or legal guardian, and securely attached to the back of each piece of artwork submitted. Card must include student’s name, address, home telephone number, school, art teacher and principal, and signatures of student and parent or legal guardian.
Judging:
Judging will take place on or about May 4, 2010, by an independent panel of judges whose decision will be final. Judges are recommended by Randolph Arts Guild, Chatham County Arts Council, Arts Council of Moore County, and Coastal Publishing of the Carolinas, Inc.
Exhibition:
All submitted art will be on display from May 4, 2010, through 12 noon on May 6, 2010, at Randolph Telephone. Randolph Telephone will generate publicity about the exhibit, but the school may wish to inform parents, students, faculty and staff, as well.
Prizes:
The winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship paid to the college of his/her choice. The winning artwork will become the cover for the Randolph Telephone Regional Directory the following year. Runners up will also be recognized.
Notification:
Winning entrants will be notified by telephone at number provided on card attached to their artwork.
Return of Artwork:
# Winning artwork will be returned to winner within 60 days of completion of Randolph Telephone project.
# Artwork not selected must be picked up from Randolph Telephone office located at 3733 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, NC (next to NC Zoological Park), by 4:00 p.m. on May 16, 2010.
Rights and Conditions:
Randolph Telephone and Comporium Publishing reserve the right to photograph and reproduce all entries for publicity, promotions, advertising, and educational purposes. Winning entrants must sign release statements provided by sponsors.
Forfeiture* of Scholarship:
In as much as the sponsors wish to encourage the pursuit of learning, as well as the recognition of artistic talent, award of the scholarship portion of first prize is contingent upon student’s college attendance. Award is to be paid to winner’s college of choice upon enrollment and maintaining of satisfactory grade point average. The award will be divided for use in both the fall and summer semesters.
*Failure to meet this requirement by not maintaining required GPA or by withdrawal or dismissal from institution will result in forfeiture of all or remaining portion of scholarship amount. Reimbursement of any unused funds will be made to Randolph Telephone and that amount awarded to a qualified runner-up.
