Did you know that 65,000 tons of waste is a result of the disposal of 125 million cell phones each year? That’s like 8,600 elephants sitting in our backyard. You can help keep cell phones and the hazardous materials they contain out of our landfills and water sources. So I’m here to make it easy and fun to collect those old cell phones and give you the chance to win big prizes!
Randolph Telephone, the NC Zoo, and KZL radio have all joined together to invite you to participate in the “Calling All Kids Cell Phone Recycling Contest!” Here’s how it works…during the month of March, participating classrooms and service organizations will be provided with collection boxes for cell phone donations. Your team of up to 100 people can bring in old cell phones and smart phones, cell phone batteries, car chargers and AC adapters, and even hands-free kits and accessories. The class or organization that collects the most cell phones and smart phones will win a pizza party, an NC Zoo Keeper in the Classroom presentation, and a $500 educational grant for your class! Second place will get a $250 grant and third place will get a $150 grant!
The collection drive will span the month of March and should be dropped off at Randolph Telephone in the Specialty Shops on Calling All Kids Day, March 25th. The KZL crew and Randolph Telephone will be there with pizza for anyone dropping off a cell phone or collection box that day. Plus, you and your parents will get free activation on any new cell phone when you donate an old cell phone at Randolph Telephone in March and April. So get your team registered and you could win!
Register by February 26th to ensure you receive your Registration Package on March 1st. Email your completed Calling All Kids Registration Form to jandrews@rtmc.net or mail it to:
